ASPEN ECO is a yarn designed for the purpose of achieving two main goals:
1) ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY: 60% RECYCLED - 40% SUSTAINABLE (BIRLA VISCOSE ™)
ASPEN ECO has three 100% recycled (GRS certified) components and an environmentally responsible one:
- Cashmere - 100% post-consumer recycling - GRS. Cashmere is an increasingly scarce natural resource, resulting from both an exceptionally harsh and fragile environment, largely restricted by the extreme cold of its geography and by its extreme vulnerability to overgrazing by the ever increasing Cashmere goat flocks, frequently pushing the endangered wildlife to the brink of extinction.
All the Cashmere used in ASPEN ECO is recycled from knitwear, thus adding no further pressure on these fragile habitats.
- Extra-fine Wool (19 microns) - 100% post-consumer recycling - GRS. The massive worldwide increase in demand for Wool and the last few years of drought in Australia are exerting an ever increasing pressure on production, unlikely to be environmentally sustainable over the medium to long-term. All the Extra-fine Wool used in ASPEN ECO is recycled from knitwear, reducing product waste and not adding further pressure on Wool production.
- Polyamide - 100% post-consumer recycled - GRS.
- Birla Viscose M (https://www.birlacellulose.com/birla-viscose.php), a fiber produced by Birla Cellulose ™ with wood pulp from certified sustainable tree farming, which earned the top spot on Canopy Planet's ranking of the most sustainable global viscose producers in 2021 (https://hotbutton.canopyplanet.org and htips://canopyplanet.org).
2) THERMOREGULATION
As the body internal temperature rises, the sweat glands release moisture which, as it evaporates off your skin, takes the extra heat energy with it, bringing the body temperature back to normal. The rate at which sweat evaporates makes you feel warmer or cooler. The four components of ASPEN ECO "work" together to help regulating the body's temperature in a more efficient way, as follows:
- 30% of the moisture is quickly absorbed, but evaporates slowly (warming sensation) given the roles of both Cashmere and Wool, fibers that can absorb up-to 21% of its own weight in water, without becoming wet (the trick is that the exterior of the fiber repels Water while its interior attracts it and then allow it to slowly evaporate.
- 40% of the moisture is absorbed quickly, but then evaporates also reiatively fast (moderate cooling sensation) due to the high moisture regain characteristics of Birla Viscose T™.
- 30% of the moisture is almost not absorbed and so quickly evaporates (fast cooling sensation), due to Polyamide, a moisture wicking material (with the ability of quickly moving moisture away from the body, without absorbing it.
Besides, Cashmere, Wool and Birla Viscose ™ also provide superior odor control
All this combined gives rise to a sweater that is exceptionally comfortable to use, even in a wide range of outside temperatures.
